Grunge Effect
This is a cool and pretty easy effect. There are other ways to do it
but this is how i do it.
1. Choose an image and open it.
2. Copy and paste onto a new transparent document. I'm going to use the image below.
Make sure you have your layers and history window out. If you don't, go Window and click on Window> Layer. They will help later on.
3. Click on the layer with the image to select it. Then go Image> Mode> Indexed Colour. A window should pop up. Change the settings to match mine. Click Ok.
4. Your image should look something like this:
5. Select the whole image and copy the image. (Ctrl + A and then Ctrl + C) Then go to your history window and click back to your original image. (you should only have clicked two steps back)
6. Now paste onto your original image. (Ctrl + V) Change the blending mode to 'Soft Light' as shown below. You can also change your opacity to suit your image. To flatten the image, go Layer> Merge Visible. This should stop the effect interfering with whatever you want to do with your image.
Here's my result:
I hope this tutorial wasn't too hard to understand but if you're having trouble feel free to email me.
